Is it normal to feel anxious about adopting a new pet after loss?

I’m terrified to adopt another pet after my beloved “ duck” , he was a cat, died in August. The whole ordeal was scary, painful, and expensive. I love animals but get anxiety at the idea of getting another companion. Is this normal? Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 11 years old | 19 lbs

This is not uncommon and is nothing to be ashamed of. There are pet bereavement specialists that you may find helpful or you could consider volunteering with a rescue charity to see if you can help without the entire responsibility of your own pet until you are ready
