My puppy has a nose skin allergy. Is this serious? How to treat?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 6 lbs

Bought a new GSD pup (35 days old). Its been 10 days in my home. Found skin allergy on his nose. Not sure if it is food allergy or flea, parasite bite. Consulted local veterinarian who precribed with lotion, tablet and medicated antibiotic injections. Need to check if it is serious issue or it can be cured. Refer the pic attached

Bro is such a cute dog! If infection or parasites are involved, it can usually be treated with an antibiotic and a anti-parasitic medication. I may take up to 7 to 10 days after starting treatment to see a noticeable difference, so you may need to give it more time. If the lesion is worsening or not improving, I would recommend a recheck with your veterinarian. They may need to do a skin scraping to see what types of cells are present and to look for parasites. In cases where the skin scraping and treatments don't give you a diagnosis, a skin biopsy will most likely be needed. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!
