My dog has a UTI and low thyroid. Could the UTI cause the low thyroid?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boxer | Female | spayed | 8 years and 6 months old | 52 lbs

My 8.5 years old Boxer recently had a senior blood CGP3 & UPCR test. Everything came back normal except for a below normal Thyroid count. She was also diagnosed with a UTI. She shows no signs or symptoms of Hypothyroidism at all. Could this low count be attributed to the UTI?

Yes, a single thyroid test can be very difficult to interpret and T4 levels are generally reduced if unwell from any cause. A repeat sample in one month would be recommended to investigate and comparison with TSH level is important at the same time
