Is it normal for my pet's urine catheter to be leaking while inserted?

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 1 year and 6 months old | 10 lbs

Is it normal that the pee always leaking when using the urine catheter ?

Yes if the urinary catheter is left open urine should continue to leak outside. This may predispose to ascendent infection through the catheter and ideally a close system with a collection bag should be used.     Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Leaking urine after having a a urinary catheter removed? No it isn't normal but it can happen. It happens secondary to inflammation. Also you need to be sure that his bladder isn't atonic (wimpy from being stretched after being blocked). Cats can leak urine because their bladders are large and they can't squeeze all the urine out. Your Vet needs to feel his bladder to determine this. I hope this helps!
