My cat is hiding, growling, and wet. Should I take him to the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 1 year and 8 months old | 10 lbs

My cat started to hide under the bed a lot and is starting to growl and run away from my boyfriend. We were just fine 2 weeks ago, but suddenly now I never see my cat since he’s always hiding. Yesterday and today I have noticed that he has wet spots on his body, but he’s just been under the bed. Like today his whole stomach was wet and his tail. If my boyfriend was the one to spray him, his back should be wet too. Should I take him to the vet or kick my boyfriend out?

I would recommend a full vet check to identify any medical causes for his altered behavior, discomfort and possibly over grooming. I would be concerned about a UTI or cystitis causing pain and a urine sample may be required to investigate further
