Why is my 4-month-old blind kitten lethargic and not eating?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 3 months and 1 day old

I have a 4 month old rescued kitten that was extremely aggressive from the start. We obtained her at 2 months of age, and she started coming around while living with us. 6 days ago she suddenly went blind, and started to adjust to not being able to see, eating and drinking normally and then today, she stopped meowing, won't eat and won't drink and is extremely lethargic.

Hi there, You kitten sounds like she has either a serious infection or a neurologic problem occuring. She needs to be seen by a vet ASAP because everything you're describing means she's very sick. Sudden blindness is usually caused by severe infection or trauma and your vet can test for these things. I hope that helps and thanks for using Pet Coach!
