Why is my senior dog losing hair, has bad teeth, and upset stomach?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 8 years and 8 months old | 5.2 lbs

My poma poo is8 years old and has recently began to have thinking hair around his neck back of his thighs its even starting on his body now. he has a bald spot on top of his tail as well.i looked online and it said Cushing disease and2 different hormone ailments were probable what can i do to help him? He also had very bad teeth and often has an upset stomach. Could this be because of his teethand what can i do to help his tummy troubles?

Hi there. So sorry that Bitz is having this issue. Yes, Cushing's disease could be the cause of his hair loss but that is not the only disease that can cause this. Thyroid disease also will often times present like this as well as some other diseases. You cannot treat this at home without knowing what the underlying cause is. You must get a diagnosis first. As for the "tummy troubles" I suggest you get him on a good probiotic like Fortiflora. http://www.allivet.com/p-1130-purina-pro-plan-veterinary-diets-fortiflora-dog-supplement-box-of-30.aspx Do not use human probiotics or any dairy products. It must be a probiotic made for dogs. I would give it daily for a minimum of two weeks to see if that helps. I suggest you have your vet check his teeth as well. If they have heavy tartar or there is a broken or abscessed tooth then that could be contributing to his symptoms. Remember, not everything can be fixed at home. Some conditions need a vet's intervention and expertise and this is one of those instances. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
