Why is my senior dog suddenly hiding but seems otherwise fine?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Pinscher | Female | spayed | 10 years and 10 months old | 12 lbs

My soon to be 11 year old normally cuddly girl is suddenly hiding the past 2 days. However, otherwise she is eating and drinking and her gums look healthy. I've felt her body externally for lumps or painful areas. I havnt found anything. Nothing has happened to spook her or no new people. Her nose is cold and wet. Is she just getting senile? Or should I be worried?

Poor Zena! She is a cutie pie! Since it has come on so suddenly, I worry that she may be painful somewhere or not feeling well. It is common for them to act this way with neck or back pain. I would have your vet do a thorough orthopedic exam on her. If he cannot find anything wrong with her, your vet may decide to do a trial course of pain meds to see if that perks her up. I hope this helps and she starts to feel better soon!
