My cat ate dog food, now has ear scabs. Will home remedies help?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 7 months and 7 days old | 6 lbs

My kitty got into a considerable amount of dog food and the next day this along with scabs on his ears showed up & this has only gotten worse. Google said digestive issues can cause scabs so I believe the dog food is the cause as it was also the only unusual thing but I'm not sure. I purchased a wound spray as well as probiotic and prebiotic and daily vitamin. Do you think these will help him heal? I do not have money for vet but will if I have to

It would be unusual for food to cause such an immediate skin reaction although not impossible. If signs do not reduce within 10days I recommend a full vet check to rule out other possibilities such as mites, infections and environmental allergies
