Why is my Boston Terrier's neck warm? Is it serious or contagious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boston Terrier | Male | neutered | 25 lbs

Hi, my Boston Terrier seems to be acting normal, but recently I noticed that his neck is extremely warm. I've never felt this before. Could this be a problem? and if he has a sickness or virus is there any chance it could be contagious?

I find dogs with heat in the neck area often have neck pain. It can be muscle spasms from an injury or pain from a bulging intervertebral disc. I recommend gentle massage to relax the muscles, and if you find some discomfort then pain medication may be warranted. Acupuncture is also effective for neck pain. I do not think this is a symptom of anything contagious. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Oliver.
