My 8-month-old dog missed rabies shot. Is it safe to wait 2 days?

My dog is about 32 weeks old and still hasn’t gotten a rabies shot is it okay if I take him to get the shot in 2 days?

Yes, definitely take Maks into the vet to get his rabies shot as soon as possible. In some states, it's required by law to have your dog vaccinated against rabies by 16 weeks of age. He will need a booster shot of the rabies vaccines four weeks after the first so he is fully vaccinated against it. Good luck, I hope this helps!

Yes, you can get Rambo his rabies injection now. He will need two series of the rabies vaccine each given four weeks apart to provide immunity against rabies. He will need an additional vaccine booster a year later to keep his immunity. The vet can go over his vaccine schedule after that. He should also get a DHPPi (distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus, parainfluenza) vaccines. Again he will need two series of this vaccine given four weeks apart to be fully immunized. He will need a booster of it in a year to keep his immunity. I'd schedule an appointment with the vet for him as soon as possible. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

The Rabies requirements may be different in different states, but in general, the minimum age to get a Rabies is 12 weeks. Most veterinarians will wait and give the Rabies at 15-16 weeks with the last booster vaccines. If your pup is not at risk (doesn't live outside), I would suggest waiting until the last vaccine visit at 15-16 weeks, but it is not going to harm him if done a couple of weeks earlier.

Yes, this isn't good because Kupa isn't protected against deadly diseases like parvo and distemper. Plus, by law, he should be rabies vaccinated by now, and since he's not, that's breaking the law. You need to get him into a vet asap to start his vaccine schedule over again, and start his rabies vaccine series.

Is getting my puppy his vaccination two days before his 12 week dangerous?
It's great that you want to get Miko up to date on his vaccines! There is usually a little leeway between booster vaccines, but if you are talking about his Rabies vaccine then taking him in early may not be possible due to state laws regarding timing of Rabies vaccine administration. He will likely need boosters every 3-4 weeks until he reaches 16-20 weeks. He will then probably need vaccines again a year later. Vaccines that he will likely need include Canine Distemper Virus, Adenovirus-2, Parvovirus , Parainfluenza Virus and Leptospira (often administered in a combination vaccine called DAPPL to reduce the number of injections), Rabies, and Bordetella bronchiseptica (often called the "kennel cough" vaccine). Your vet may also recommend the Lyme and Canine Influenza vaccines, based on your location and Miko's lifestyle. A friend his dog and does not when he gave him the rabies shot lost papers. Can I give him another rabies shot.
Yes this is perfectly fine to give him another rabies vaccine. We often deal with lost of stray pets with no knowledge of vaccine history so we vaccinate for Rabies again, regardless of if it is expired or not. There is no harm to the animal in doing so, unless they have a rare allergy. I hope that Max does well with his Rabies moving forward. Best wishes and take care.

Can a dog, 4 years of age, be given a rabies shot? This would be her first one because my parents didnt know they needed to go to a vet to do the rabies. However she did have all her puppy shots, administered to her by my grandma.
Hello. Yes, a 4 year old dog can & should have a rabies vaccination administered by a veterinarian. It is never too late to do this. Meeka will need a booster in 1 year, but after this one year booster, you may elect ( & if your veterinarian offers this ), a rabies booster every 3 years thereafter. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

My dog will be four months on 4/9 but has an appointment on 3/31 & is supposed to get his next round of shots. I want him to get the rabies shot but he has to be four months. Will that week & change make a difference or just wait until 4/15?
A puppy may receive a Rabies vaccine any time after 12 weeks of age. He should be able to get it at the next appointment unless there are other circumstances (prior vaccine reaction, availability, # of vaccines being given).

My vet mistakenly had my puppies age as 15 weeks 1 day and she is only 8 weeks 2 days old and before the mistake was discovered she was given the rabies and bordatella vaccine. Should I be concerned about them being given at this age? Also they are
Bordetella vaccine can be given to puppies from 8 weeks of age. The rabies vaccine will have to be repeated at 12 to 16 weeks (depending on your state's law) as maternal antibodies will destroy it and your puppy will not develop an immunity against rabies at this age. It is unlikely that your puppy will have any detrimental effect from those vaccines given at the age of 8 weeks. Whether the bordetella vaccine needs to be given again will depend on the type and brand of the vaccine. I suggest you follow the advice of your veterinarian. Accidents like this can happen, and it is likely that the tech who filled out your initial admission made a mistake when entering the information in the computer. This does not mean your vet is a bad vet.
