My 5-week puppy is underweight. When to deworm and vaccinate?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | unneutered | 1 month and 5 days old | 1lb

Just get puppy 5 weeks old and he is hardly 200 grams what I need to do and when I need to start tretman for deworming and vacines

Hello. A puppy should be examined for general health & the presence of intestinal parasites by your veterinarian now. It is never a good idea to just deworm because you may be missing some important parasites like coccidia. Vaccinations are usually started at 8 weeks of age & boostered at 12 & 16 weeks of age.     Congratulations on your new puppy. Deworming susually start at around 4-6 weeks of age and vaccines start at around 8 weeks so Coco is a little behind schedule and should get these done right away. I would recommend scheduling an appt with your local vet as soon as possible and to not expose Coco to any unvaccinated pets or to the outside until she is fully vaccinated. Best wishes!

Congratulations on your new puppy. At his young age, he can go to the veterinarian for a wellness exam to make sure everything looks okay and he could receive his first deworming treatment. Most veterinarians would recommend waiting to give the first vaccination at 6-7 weeks. If you have any concerns about him including diet due to his very young age, I would take him right away for his first exam and deworming, if he is eating well with no issues, you could wait and take him at 6 weeks for the deworming and vaccine to be done at the same time. Vaccines can start around 6-7 weeks of age and should be boosted every 4 weeks until 16 weeks of age. Discuss an appropriate vaccination protocol based on Snoopy's lifestyle and risk of exposure with your veterinarian. Snoopy should be kept away from public places and dogs of unknown vaccine status until about 2 weeks after his last round of vaccines. Deworming can start now and should be done every 2 weeks until 12 weeks of age. Transition to a monthly preventative afterwards. You can submit a stool sample to your veterinarian to confirm infection, identify the parasite or to confirm clearance.

You can repeat the deworm after 2 weeks. If there was a heavy worm burden then it may not have gotten them all. Also, make sure your dewormer has praziquantel to cover tapeworms--they get these from eating a flea. Her vaccines will be due every 3 weeks until she is 16 weeks old. A veterinarian has to administer the rabies vaccines typically between 12-16 weeks of age depending on your state laws and the size of the puppy. You vet can also do a health exam to make sure everything is normal at this time.

Thanks for visiting Boop by Petco! She is not too young to be away from mom if she is 5 weeks of age. Pets are vaccinated as early as 6 weeks of age, and are usually weaned off of mom at this age. Since you have another pet in the home that does go outside, it is best to start vaccines for this pup once she is 6-8 weeks of age. Intestinal worms usually don't make pets too sick, but it can cause loose stool and potential vomiting. They still will eat well and do well as long as the worms are treated in a timely fashion (within 1-2 weeks), so this is an easy fix if you do encounter this. If your other pet is on a monthly heartworm prevention, then it has a natural intestinal dewormer in it as well that can protect your pet against 2 types of worms (hookworms and roundworms), which are the most common types of worms seen in puppies. But again, if you do happen to encounter a worm problem, this is easily dealt with with the appropriate dewormer, so keep an eye out for any loose sto

6 weeks old..tiny chiweenie. Is 8 weeks ok to take for 1st vet visit or should i take him sooner? No sign of worms, eating, eliminating normal. Less than 1lb. Worried to small for shots.
So cute! If he seems healthy and is not having any problems then he could wait until he is 8 weeks old for a vet visit. I probably would not vaccinate him at his age and weight. You should limit his exposure to other dogs and do not take him to any public places until he is vaccinated. You could take a stool sample to your vet and have him/her test it for parasites and/or get a broad spectrum dewormer from your vet and give him a dose, especially if he hasn't already been dewormed by the breeder. Hello! We very routinely perform vaccines as well as give dewormers at the same visit. This should not be a problem as long as your puppy is healthy. We typically recommend 3 sets of vaccines (at 8, 12 and 16 weeks) and deworming every 2 weeks until they are over 4 months of age. Good job taking care of your puppy to keep him healthy!

Hi there! Since Mocha is six weeks old, he should go ahead and start his vaccinations now. He will need a DAPP vaccine (for distemper, adenovirus, parvo, and parainfluenza) now - this vaccine will also need to be boostered every 3 weeks until he is 16 weeks or older. He will also need a rabies vaccine anytime after 12 weeks of age. Depending on his lifestyle and what diseases are prevalent in your area, he may also need to be vaccinated against Bordetelle (kennel cough), leptospirosis, and/or Lyme disease. Your veterinarian can discuss the risks of these illnesses in your area and help you make this decision. And yes, he should also be dewormed. You can use a broad-spectrum dewormer like Strongid or Panacur from the pet store, or get a prescription dewormer from your vet's office if you prefer.

Deworming puppies is recommended with pyrantel at 2, 4 and 6 weeks. This can be purchased at any pet store. Vaccines are started at 6 weeks that incude distemper and parvo. Bordetella is not started to 8 weeks and is optional

Why is it important to complete first atleast 3 times of deworming before applying 5in1 vaccine?
A puppy must be 6 weeks before receiving his first dose of vaccines as the antibodies from their mom's milk is in their system and will not allow an immune response to the vaccine any earlier than that. Dewormers are usually safe to give before 6 weeks so some breeder choose to give them before 6 weeks of age, but they don't necessarily NEED a dewormer before than can receive the vaccine.
