Is a hanging belly normal for my Maine Coon who isn't overweight?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Maine Coon | Female | spayed | 7 years and 11 months old

My Maine Coon (8yrs) has a very low hanging “apron”, past her knees. She is not over weight. Is this normal? I feel she is less active because of it.

Hi there, Typically this is just their fat pad. Most cats have a fat pad but some have one that is more noticeable than others. I would still have your vet her if she's acting lethargic and to make sure what you're seeing isn't something else. I hope that helps and thanks for using Pet Coach!
