How many eyelids do birds have and can their eyelids get torn?

How many eyelids is within an avian eye? Is it possible for a bird to tear one of its eyelids?

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Birds have two eyelids, similar to humans (an upper and lower lid). They also have a "third" eyelid, or the nictitating membrane that lubricates the eye. It is possible for eyelids to be torn due to trauma, and this requires veterinary attention to prevent the eye from becoming dry.
