My dog's broken nail is hanging off. Should I cut it or leave it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 2 years and 9 months old | 50 lbs

My dog broke his nail. It’s doesn’t seem to be bothering him other than when I try to touch it. He’s walking fine and even playing in the snow but the nail is still hanging off. Should I try to cut it off or just let it be? It looks like the inner part has already been detached.

The nail is almost completely broken, it's barely hanging there, you should be able to easily cut it off with a nail clippers, i'm pretty sure it is not going to be painful and won't be bleeding either.
