The published toxic dose of onions for dogs is 15-30 grams/kilogram body weight. Symptoms (lethargy, pale gums, discolored urine, wobbly gait or difficulty breathing) may not manifest until 2-4 days after ingestion. Depending on Manna's weight, a one time ingestion will likely result in nothing worse than some gastrointestinal upset (vomiting and diarrhea). Fast her for 24 hours, allowing small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet in small, frequent amounts until symptoms resolve before transitioning slowly to her regular diet. Monitor for the symptoms listed above and seek veterinary attention if any develop or if any gastrointestinal upset does not resolve.
