Why is my cat chewing her fur and bald after her sister died?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 14 years and 7 months old | 22 lbs

Faith's sister, Hope, died the end of October. They were pretty much inseparable. Hope, near the end, chewed her hair out. Now, Faith chews her hair out and the last time I applied Cheristin, Faith had a bald spot under her chin on her neck.

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern! It sounds like a lot of this may be stress related. I would recommend using Feliway products, which can be found online quite easily. Feliway is a pheremone product that can help reduce stress. I would start with this and if there is no improvement, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Faith so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.
