My dog's eye looks blind after Parvo & Metronidazole. Side effect?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | spayed | 66 lbs

Our dog was discharged from isolation 3 days ago after being treated for Parvo virus. We are very happy she survived. The vet gave us a course of Metronidazole 400mg to give to her at home - 2 tablets per day. Her right eye now looks like it is going blind all of a sudden. I am aware that it could be an infection or multiple other health reasons, but could it also perhaps be a side effect of the medication?

Hi there, The dose of metonidazole your dog is on is well within range and eye changes isn't a listed side effect. I would suspect whatever is going on with Katryn's eye is due to something else as you mentioned. I know she's been at the vet a lot but I would recommend taking her back in for an eye exam today. Changes in the appearance of the eyes typically are serious and you'll want to get her started on medications ASAP. I hope that helps and thanks for using Pet Coach!
