My dog is lethargic, drinking lots, and panting. When to see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | spayed | 6 years old | 3 lbs

Unsure whether to take dog to vet or wait it out, she is suffering from lethargy, also drinking more water than usual, panting a lot, and looks uncomfortable, out cat just passed away from bowel blockage and we didn't know the symptoms so just want to be sure whether she should be at a vet or not

I am sorry that Mia isn’t feeling well. But yes, I agree that you should have her evaluated by a veterinarian. The symptoms you describe concern me about diabetes and kidney disease among other possibilities. I would not wait it out and she could become much more sick if not addressed soon. Best of luck and I hope she improves soon. Thank you for using Pet Coach.
