Pet's info: Cat | Persian | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 12 days old
My kitten has flaky, dry skin and very little fur. Her skin is pink and has scab looking thinks all over. She also always has a distinctive sweaty smell. This is the shampoo and conditioner I'm using with her so now. Is this the right shampoo/conditioner? What see the ingredients I should be looking for in a shampoo/conditioner that will help with her fur and skin? How often should I be bathing her when her skin/fur is like this? What vitamins/supplements can help with her skin/fur problems?

Hi there. Thank you for the photos. I am guessing based on all of that information that Matilda has an underlying issue that is causing this problem. The most common reasons for that much hairloss and flaking skin in a kitten is either mites (mange) or ringworm. There are other possibilities too: severe yeast infection or bacterial infection, autoimmune disease, viral disease, endocrinopathy, etc. I strongly suggest you get her to a vet for an exam. You need a diagnosis before you can know how to treat it. The shampoo you have it not hurting anything but it is not likely to help. While you are waiting to get her to a vet you can try using BETADINE® 7.5% Skin Cleanser. Lather it on her, leave it sit on her for 5 minutes and then rinse thoroughly. You can wash her every 3-4 days. http://ph.betadine.com/en/ph/wound-care It appears as though you can obtain this at any pharmacy in the Philippines. I am not optimistic that this will cure her but you can try. I strongly suggest you get her to a vet for an exam. Best wishes.

Hi and thank you for your question on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Redness and/or hair loss over the back near the tail can have many causes. The most common cause however is flea allergy. If Murphy is not on a flea preventative, this could be a possibility, even if he in indoors. It only takes 1 flea to induce a flea allergy. Other causes may be a fungal infection, bacterial infection, food allergy or other environmental allergy. Coconut oil can help keep the area moist. I would recommend putting Murphy on a monthly flea preventative to rule out flea allergy as the cause. If it does not get any better in a week or so, I would see your veterinarian for a few skin tests. Thank you again for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!
