Why is my 4-month-old kitten skinny, lethargic, and breathing fast?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | unneutered | 4 months and 1 day old

We have four, 4 month old kittens. One of them has lost weight. He seems like he is so skinny compared to his siblings. He doesn't play as much as he used to, he seems to lay around a lot, sometimes he'll just be looking down and real quiet. He has rapid breathing and he's not sneezing a lot or anything. I'm not sure what is wrong, I hate seeing him like this

You need to get Jax to your vet for an exam. He may have a viral disease like FIP that is causing his symptoms. This can be fatal. Please read this article for more information. http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=1+2134&aid=212 I strongly suggest you get Jax to your vet as soon as possible so a diagnosis can be established. That way Jax can get the appropriate treatment.
