My dog has impaction and a fever. How can I help her poop?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 12 years old | 30 lbs

I took my 30 pd. dog (mix) to vet. today. Coco. X-ray showed impaction. Dr. gave injection of antibiotic due to increased temp. He also gave her an injection of anti-nausea med. I was instructed to bring her back in a couple of days if not better. My question is should I give her something to poop. The little thing not well.

If Coco has constipation I am surprised your vet did not give her an enema or prescribe any stool softeners. I think you should call your vet and ask about this. Your vet has all the pertinent information on her condition. We do not want to advise you to do something that your vet didn't feel was good based on her exam/x-ray. I am worried about her having an elevated temperature. I am also not sure based on your description if she has a large colon impaction (constipation) or a small intestinal obstruction - the treatments are different for those. Please call your vet to get advise on this issue.
