Pet's info: Dog | Pembroke Welsh Corgi | Male | neutered | 16 years and 8 months old | 27 lbs
My vet prescribed Trazadone 100mg/day so my dog can sleep through the night. He took his first dose last night and was able to sleep all night. However, he is still very tired this morning to the point where he won't eat his breakfast. He is always hungry so I get nervous when he doesn't eat. I like how he slept well but don't like him to be this tired. Should I decrease the dose to 50mg tonight? or should I keep at 100mg to see if he gets used to the medication? He weighs 27lb.

Hi there, I would go ahead and try the 1/2 dose this evening. Trazadone can be quite strong for some dogs and it would be better to see if a low dose works rather than see if he builds tolerance. An alternative to trazadone that I find works well is a more natural medication called Solliquin. We see less lethargy and usually more calming effects. Your vet may carry it but you should also be able to find it online. I hope that helps and thanks for using Pet Coach!
