Why are my rescue dog's teeth worn down to stubs? What's the cause?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | unneutered | 85 lbs

Jasper was a rescue dog we have had him for over a year and he doesnt seem to have problems eatung as far as I know. But when we got him multiple teeth if not all has been cut down to the stubs me and my husband has wondered about it many times. He doesn't bite or growl unless there is a threating situation with other dogs he has never growled or bit another human as long as we have had him

Sometimes dogs wear their teeth down by chewing on things. Such as if he used to chew tennis balls all the time, or was in a cage and chewed and pulled on the doors. It would be very rare that they would have been filed down on purpose. I assume he probably wore them down doing something repetitively. Best of luck I’m glad he now has a great forever home!
