Great Dane has bleeding spots and a swollen nose. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Great Dane | Female | spayed | 100 lbs

My Great Dane has experienced skin irritations in the past (dry skin, acne under the chin), and our vet has always said that it's nothing to worry about. In the past day or so, she has developed tiny red spots that have been seeping a little bit of blood on her nose and it has begun to swell up. This seems worse than the acne issues she has had in the past. She seems to be breathing just fine and is acting normal. We did put some polysporin on it, but what else can I do? Should I be concerned?

Hello, sorry to hear about Sophie. It looks like she could be having inflammation of her skin at that area either due to an autoimmune disease, decrease in zinc levels, or an infection. If this problem has persisted for some time, it may be reasonable to speak with your veterinarian about consulting with a dermatologist. Diagnostics may include biopsies of the area. Hope this helps and best of luck.
