Should I worry about my puppy's fast breathing, runny nose, sneezing?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Shepherd | Male | neutered | 2 months and 10 days old | 37 lbs

When my puppy is sleeping he breaths fairly fast and also when he wakes up from a nap his nose is usually a bit runny and he sometimes sneezes, is that normal? Or should I get him checked out by a vet? His gums are pink and caprefill time is less than 2 seconds

Puppies do breathe a bit faster while asleep than adult dogs. An occasional sneeze or nasal drip is fine. Monitor for lethargy, decreased appetite, difficulty breathing or a yellow or green nasal discharge. See your veterinarian for an exam if any of these symptoms develop.
