My puppy ate a paper wrapper. Will it cause an obstruction or pass?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | unneutered | 6 months and 29 days old | 13 lbs

My 7m puppy just are the whole panettone brown paper wrapper (I’d say it would be about half a fist sized ball if scrunched up?) that was accidentally left on the coffee table. Should we be concerned and look out for signs of obstruction or is paper likely to just naturally pass through him? So far he is active and doesn’t regret anything!!

It depends! Some dogs will do fine, others won't. If there is a vet close, I would recommend inducing vomiting in a vet clinic because if it comes up, then there is nothing to worry about! If not, then watch closely over then next 1-2 weeks for signs of obstruction, including decreased appetite, lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, etc.
