My dog has a tongue bump and is coughing blood. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Poodle | Female | unspayed | 8 years and 7 months old | 22 lbs

My dog has a bump on the back of his tongue, it's really remarkable. So far she has only coughed a couple of times, in which blood has come out. What can be? I am worried that it may continue to grow and prevent her from feeding or breathing properly.

I recommend getting her in to see your vet right away. The location alone of this growth is in danger of occluding her breathing, as evidenced by the coughing. Anything in the mouth and/or tongue will bleed, and there may be more bleeding that you aren't seeing because she is swallowing it. Please don't wait to get her seen. If caught early, there is a better chance of getting the growth surgically removed before it can spread or choke her.
