My dog has a small, movable lump on his neck. When to worry?

Hi my cavapoo has a small pea sized movable lump on his neck. It’s in the muscle we think. It’s not bothering him but is obvious a worry.

The best thing to do since it does not bother him is monitor the growth. If it changes or get larger or seems painful then I would have it checked immediately. If it does not go away after 2 months then I would have it checked. It may be a cyst or abscess or tumor.

Any new growths you find on your dog should be checked by your vet. There is no way for us to tell you over the internet what this lump is. It could be just another lipoma (fatty tumor) or a benign cyst but it could also be something more serious like a mast cell tumor. http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=2+2111&aid=424 I suggest you get Mr. Snort to your vet for an exam. It is not an emergency but I would try to get him there in the next few days. I would be worried that the lump came up so quickly and that it is so large. Hope this helps. If you have more questions feel free to post again. Best wishes!
