Why is my dog losing fur in chunks, has bald spots, and is so itchy?

My poor French mastiff has chunks of fur just falling of him leaving many bald spots especially under his neck which look sore hot to touch and red spots this is a on going problem and have seen the vet on a number of occasions he is very itchy what can i do to ease the symptoms? Pet's info: Dog | French Mastiff | Male | neutered

This sounds like Bruce has a skin infection, or pyoderma. This usually needs antibiotics to resolve. However, in the meantime you can bathe him in an antimicrobial shampoo such as chlorhexidine or salicylic acid. These can be found in the human shampoo aisle in the dandruff area.
