This sounds like Bruce has a skin infection, or pyoderma. This usually needs antibiotics to resolve. However, in the meantime you can bathe him in an antimicrobial shampoo such as chlorhexidine or salicylic acid. These can be found in the human shampoo aisle in the dandruff area. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.

Infections by either fungi of bacteria tend to cause the most damage, but usually there is an underlying cause that allows the fungi and bacteria to flourish. It is also possible that these are caused by an autoimmune disease, or it's a reaction to allergies or fleas. In order to narrow down the cause of this, a veterinarian would need to examine Bruce and possibly take a sample for testing. For now, it will be good to wash the area with warm water and a medicated shampoo (can get this at the pet store) once a day. Use a cloth and gently wipe away any crusts. Do not scrub, because it will irritate the skin more. I hope that helps and Bruce gets better soon.
