Is CBD oil safe for my dog with high triglycerides and inflammation?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Pinscher | Female | spayed | 7 years and 10 months old | 17 lbs

My dog has high triglycerides and elevated liver enzymes. The vet put her on hills prescription diet r/d. However she also tore her acl and is not doing surgery at this time or taking pain meds due to her elevated blood work. I read cbd and hemp can be helpful in lowering inflammation and was looking into cbd oil, but not sure if it would raise her triglycerides. I found one that has hemp and salmon oil I would like to try.

Very interesting question. I have not seen any studies in dogs about triglyceride levels with CBD or hemp oil, but salmon oil and omega 3 fatty acids have been shown to help reduce triglycerides, so the combination may actually be helpful. My dog is currently on a hemp oil based CBD, but I have not rechecked his triglycerides since he has been on it, so I don't know if it will make a difference. Unfortunately, we probably don't have enough experience with this product to tell you, but I would not expect it to raise triglyceride levels and it may actually help lower them. Good luck! I hope that was helpful. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
