My friend's Canary died when their house got too cold when their Furnace broke. I didn't ask her what the Temperature was, though. Will you tell me at what Temp. in F. Degrees, a Canary will die from the cold? Thanks!

There is no direct answer to your question. No one knows the exact freezing temperature of a bird. If I had to guess I would think they could not withstand anything under about 32F for prolong periods of time. There is a common misconception that canaries are delicate, tropical birds that cannot take a chill. Actually, they are quite hardy and if acclimated, can survive freezing temperatures. As long as they are not in a draft, they can puff up at night and maintain their body temperature. The main limitation is that their drinking water not freeze. The birds themselves will survive freezing temperatures. All that being said, if the canary was not acclimated to colder temperatures or if he was in a draft then he may have caught an upper respiratory infection that caused the death and not the actual cold temperature itself.
