My dog has diarrhea and blood in poop. What can I feed them?

Pet's info: Dog | Border Collie | Female | spayed | 2 years and 11 months old | 8.5 lbs

Good day One of our dogs has a running tummy. This morning the poo had a little blood in. What can I give? We have gastropect but it expired in 2012 already. They don’t seem to feel sick. Thank you

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! You can try feeding plain boiled chicken and boiled rice for a bland diet to calm the intestines. I would not give any expired medications. If the diarrhea or blood continue after 24 hours or gets worse during that time, I would seek medical attention from a vet to determine the cause.     Hi, and thanks for your question. As a first approach, I would suggest to withhold food for the next 8 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, more vomiting, lethargy or inappetence.     Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Mollie and Gracie! The fact BOTH dogs have blood in the stool makes me think it is either a viral or bacterial infection, intestinal parasites or something diet related (new food or treat or people food). Blood indicates inflammation in the colon. If they are having severe diarrhea then fast them for 12-24 hours. Water is okay as long as they are not vomiting. Then resume feeding with a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice. Feed 1 cup per 20 lbs per day until 2 normal stools. If they do not improve, worsen or start vomiting they should see a Vet. Good luck!

Poor Buddy! Diarrhea can be caused by a variety of conditions, including parasites, viruses, "garbage gut" from eating different foods or treats, among many others. Buddy may be having a bit of blood in his stool from irritation to the colon or parasites. Since you can't take him to the vet today and he is otherwise eating and drinking normally, try withholding food for the next 12-24 hours. After that time, offer boiled white meat chicken and white rice (1 cup of the 50:50 mixture for every 10 pounds of body weight, divided into 2-4 smaller meals) for the next few days. After several days on this bland diet, gradually mix in his normal dog food over another 5-7 days. However, if his diarrhea continues or worsens, if he becomes lethargic, stops eating and drinking, or has more blood in his stool, Buddy will need to go to his vet for further evaluation. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, if she has bloody poop while food is withheld, she refuses to eat the bland diet, she starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. If you continue to see blood in her poop, she starts having diarrhea, it continues to be painful for her to poop, she starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. My puppy is having bloody diarrhea what should I feed her I won't be able to see a vet until tomorrow morning
Poor puppy! It's good that you have a vet appointment already scheduled, since bloody diarrhea is concerning and definitely warrants a vet visit. In the meantime, you can try feeding her a bland diet of plain boiled chicken and rice to see if this helps a bit - this often helps to soothe an upset stomach in dogs.

Even random food can cause GI upset. The only food Kira needs is her dog food. I'm concerned that she is pooping blood, keep a close eye on that. My dog is crate trained but pooped in her crate and today she had liquid diarrhea with a bit of blood. What should I do?
If it was just one episode and Marceline is otherwise feeling and eating well I would feed her a bland diet of skinless, boneless chicken breast and white rice for a couple of days. If the diarrhea continues I would have her seen by your veterinarian so they can prescribe medication to help clear up the diarrhea. If dogs have an episode of diarrhea with blood it can be colitis from stress but if it is continuing there could be another issue going on such as a parasite.

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Kobe! With severe vomiting and diarrhea blood can develop. In the vomit that is due to ulceration of the stomach lining and in the stool it is secondary to inflammation in the colon. I would not give Kobe food for 24 hours. With hold water for 6 hours. If he stops vomiting during the 6 hours you can start small sips of water. If he continues to vomit then he should go to an Emergency hospital today. If all goes well with the water then at 24 hours start a bland diet of rice with boiled hamburger. Feed 1 cup per 20 lbs per day as small frequent meals. Feed the bland diet until 2 normal stools then transition him to the non chicken diet. If he won't eat, continues to vomit and/or is lethargic he should be seen by a Vet. Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Charlie! Blood in the stool indicates inflammation in the colon and we usually like to start dogs on antibiotics when they have blood in the stool. If Charlie is acting normal, not vomiting and is eating I think he can wait for your Vet to open tomorrow. If he is vomiting and not acting normal you should take him in an emergency hospital. The causes for diarrhea are: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, dietary indiscretion, new treat, food or table scraps, pancreatitis, toxin ingestion, food allergy or intolerance. Most of the time we do not ever know the underlying cause. If the diarrhea is bad then fast him for 12-24 hours, do not limit water. Then resume feeding as a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice. Feed 1 cup per 20 lbs per day until 2 days of normal stools. I hope this helps and I wish Charlie a speedy recovery!

Hi, my dog Ruby has been pooping inside a lot these past several days and today she had diarrhea. She’s in a separate room right now where it’s easier to clean the floor. When I check on her, she’s shaking. Her activity level has been pretty average
If Ruby is indeed behaving normally, withhold all food for 24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet in small, frequent amounts. Begin with one tablespoon of food every hour and gradually increase the amount. Feed blandly until the stool is normal then transition slowly to her regular diet. A bland diet can be plain white rice mixed with one of the following: cottage cheese, boiled boneless/skinless chicken breasts, cooked/drained ground beef or cooked/drained ground turkey. Mix in a 1:1 ratio and serve warm, if necessary, to stimulate eating. Symptoms that would require a visit to the veterinarian are: vomiting, continuing or worsening diarrhea, lethargy, loss of appetite or abdominal pain.
