Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | neutered | 6 years old | 5.1 lbs
My 5 lbs chihuahua got hit on his right eye by a classic mouse trap. Brought him to an emergency vet and they found out that the iris is not responsive to light. He said it might get back to normal once the swelling goes down. I'm afraid if my dog will lose his eyesight on his right eye. For now the vet gave us eye drops and oral nsaids. Can this type of injury be repaired?

It depends on where the injury is located in the eye. IF there is a scratch or abrasion on the cornea, then it can improve with eye drops. If there is a detached retina from the hit or nerve trouble from the swelling then there is not way to repair it. Just keep with the medicine to help with the swelling and you can also apply a cold compress to help, then follow up with your vet to have the vision and eye checked. Dogs are great at adapting to vision loss and he can still lead a full normal life.
