My dog scraped her nose. How to stop her licking off the medicine?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | 1 year and 1 month old | 70 lbs

My dog scraped her nose a few days ago and I cleaned it and I was informed we should put cortisone cream or Neosporin on it. I don't want her to lick the medicine off. What else could I do?

Hello, and thank you for your question. To avoid ingestion of the medicine, try to put only a very thin layer on and then try to distract Bailey with a chew toy for about 10 minutes to avoid her licking the cream off. That should be enough time for the cream to absorb into the skin, so if she happens to lick after that, none should be ingested. I hope this helps, and that Bailey's nose gets better soon!
