Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 5 years and 11 months old | 60 lbs
My dog was diagnosed with heart worms this past August, and received her final shots on December 8th. She’s been caged up for nearly 2 months as instructed(treatment started in Nov.), and seems very healthy. Now at nearly a month since the procedure, would a small hike be safe? Planning a trip for New Year’s Eve, but not sure if taking my dog would be okay. I would ask the veterinarian who did the procedure, but they’re part of a city owned shelter so I can’t get touch with them.

No. I don't think that would be wise. When they have been treated for heartworms and rested for 2 months, it is recommended to GRADUALLY increase their exercise. After they have been cleared to start exercising it is best to start out with like a 5-10 minute leash walk and then every few days increase the time by about 5 minutes. I know that outwardly she seems fine and healthy and I'm sure she'd love the hike but I wouldn't risk it. Hope this answers your question. Best wishes to you and Stella in the new year!
