My bulldog is vomiting, drinking lots, and has red eyes. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Bulldog | Female | unspayed | 11 months and 21 days old | 60 lbs

My 11mth old female American/Australian Bulldog has been vomiting at night at least once every 2nd day for 2 weeks. It's been 34-37deg in that time period. I reduced her dry food to 1 handful every 4-6hrs & her water down to half a cup as she was drinking excessively in one sitting. She didn't vomit for 3days until tonight & eyes look red. Can dogs suffer heatstroke or are there any common allergies wI think this breed?

This is not specific to any disease, but indicates that something is either directly upsetting her stomach, or generally making her feel nauseous. I would not be suspicious of allergies or heat stroke with what you are describing. The fact that she is also drinking more water and is having red-appearing eyes is somewhat concerning that she may have a problem with on of her organs (i.e. liver or kidney). In order to discover the cause of this problem you will need to take Kenzie to a veterinarian for an evaluation. They can help narrow-down the cause of this and provide treatment to at-least make her feel better. For more information about vomiting, I recommend you read the article at the link below. https://www.petcoach.co/article/diarrhea-vomiting-in-dogs-when-to-call-your-veterinarian/ I think it's good to continue with feeding less more often, but make sure she has plenty of water available. She should always be allowed to drink as much as she wants, or she can get dangerously dehydrated. If you have further questions or need further clarification, then you may consider having an online consult with one of our vets on Petcoach. This way, you can send unlimited pictures and have a text conversation with a vet. I hope that helps and Kenzie gets better soon.
