Why is my dog licking her leg and walking sideways or wobbly?

Check the leg and foot for any injuries, stickers in the paw, broken nails, swellings, etc. If you notice anything then get her to a vet for an exam. If no injuries are found then wash her off in case she came into contact with a chemical that is causing a reaction and rest her. If no improvement then take her to a vet for an exam.

I would recommend that you have Sweety examined by a vet. Unspayed older dogs are at risk for developing a life-threatening infection in the uterus. Other possible causes for ataxia (walking drunk) are vestibular syndrome, ear infection, body infection, kidney or liver disease, etc. The vet will do a thorough physical and neurologic exam and may recommend blood work to see what could be going on.

Hi there. Sadie could have a lot of different things going on especially if she’s an older dog. Shaking can indicate pain or any kind of general discomfort. If she’s licking her front leg a lot she may have some pain isolated to that area and that is why she’s licking it. If you are concerned I would recommend contacting her owners and see if you can have a vet check her and make sure nothing else is going on and also check her for pain. If she’s painful the vet can prescribe something that would be safe for her and make her more comfortable.

Poor girl. The fact that she is wobbly and running into things, means that this is likely neurological. I would definitely have her seen by your vet right away for a thorough examination and brief neuro exam to see if we can find the underlying cause for this. One common cause for these types of sudden neurological symptoms in older dogs is vestibular disease, which can be caused by an inner ear infection, a brain tumor, or idiopathic (no underlying cause found). Idiopathic vestibular disease is the most common one we see and typically can improve on its own within a few weeks time with supportive care through your vet. What you are describing makes me wonder if Ivy has a problem with her balance or something else neurological that makes her movements abnormal. I would recommend taking some video of her walking and have your veterinarian evaluate them. If she has always moved that way, then there may not be anything to do about it, but if her movement is getting worse, I would have your veterinarian perform a neurological examination to see if there is anything abnormal. That sounds concerning for a neurological issue with Mollie although in an older pet, arthritis can also affect how a pet walks. Neurological disease can be an issue by it's self but can also be caused by liver disease, toxins or electrolyte imbalances. I would recommend to take Mollie into a vet as soon as you can for an exam and likely bloodwork. Sometimes it can can be vestibular disease which resolves on it's own. Best to get her checked out. From the clinical signs you are describing I would b considered mostly with pain in the lower abdomen. This combined with loss of control go urinary function could indicate an infection or inflammation of the bladder. I would advise a trip to the vet for a urineanalysis to diagnose.
