My dog is spacey and whining after surgery. Should I console him?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | neutered | 3 years and 7 months old | 145 lbs

3 and half black lab had surgery today to remove an eye cyst and he is home now and is very spacey and whining a lot. Should I stay up and console him and .monitor him or is this normal and just check on him every once and awhile?

Unfortunately, a number of the pain medications and anesthetic drugs that we use make dogs a little spacey and whiny. Consoling them doesn't seem to help them, so I usually recommend making sure they are in a safe and quiet place and let them rest. Good luck! I'm sure Roscoe will be fine.
