My dog ate human Montelukast and is now sick. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 4 years and 11 months old | 16 lbs

16lb chi-pom apparently ate a 10mg Montelukast Sodium tablet yesterday. Threw up very small yellow amt vomit. 4 hrs. later a normal poop and then a looser but almost normal poop. Seemed "off" except when being walked outside 3xa day since then. This late am had small diahrrea. Seems more normal behavior now. Prognosis?

I am guessing that Princess will be OK but I don't know that for sure. I can't diagnose over the internet just based on your description. My opinion is that you should have had her examined/treated by your vet at the time she ingested the tablet. That was a definite overdose. The diarrhea is likely from the overdose. If that is the case it should resolve on it's own. Hopefully she is eating and drinking now. All I can say is that if you are worried about her you should take her in to your vet for an exam.
