Cat licking red neuter area, seems in pain. Should I call the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 8 months and 3 days old | 6 lbs

Should i take my cat to the clinc? He had neutering done but his area is turning a somewhat red and his trying desperately to lick at it. He makes sounds that almosy sound like moan pains and he drools constantly. Is he in pain? Can i give him anything for it?

It is very hard to give much advice without seeing a photo. However, based on what you said though, I would suggest you take Noodle back for a recheck exam. He may have gotten razor burn from the surgical shaving and that may be making him uncomfortable. There is nothing you can give him over the counter. Cats are EXTREMELY sensitive to over the counter medications and you can do some serious damage to them by giving something. The only thing you can do at this point until you get him to the vet is to put a cone collar on him so she can't lick that area. https://www.chewy.com/kong-ez-soft-collar-dogs-cats-small/dp/47833 Hope this helps. Best wishes.
