My cat's toe is injured. Does it need stitches or can I treat it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 1 year and 6 months old

Hello. Cat, male 1.5yrs. Part of toe hanging off(front left paw). Stopped bleeding. Cat well, eating etc. Though annoyed to be indoors with cone on. Wound less than a centimeter. Flushing/ cleaning with salt water. Claw was stuck in bit of wound so moved and used surgical tape to loosely stick the flap of wound back between claws. Monitoring for signs of infection. Does this sound like something that would need stitch/glue or can I continue to try and aid the healing process as I am? Many thanks

ALthough stitching is the fastest way to heal wounds (5-7days) as it helps sealing of the edges together in the correct alignment, most small flesh wounds such as this will heal over 3-4weeks if kept clean and infection is avoided. You must monitor closely for any heat, swelling or pain which may indicate infection requiring further treatment
