Can I safely use an OTC dewormer for my tiny puppy with Coccidia?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | unspayed | 1 month and 26 days old | 1.5 lbs

My dog's stool came back positive for Coccidia yesterday. She's on antibiotics for a respiratory infection. She's 8 weeks and 1.5 lb. My vet doesn't want to do a med since she's so small, but can I use an OTC dewormer for her to clear the coccidia?

No. The over the counter medications are impossible to dose for a 1.5# dog. You will overdose her. Not only that but coccidia is a protozoan parasite and many over the counter medications do not treat this. I suggest you just use a probiotic for now. https://www.ebay.com/i/253095406158?chn=ps Hope this helps. Best wishes.
