Is a dog with sarcoptic mange still contagious during treatment?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 23 days old | 15 lbs

I am adopting a dog with sarcoptic mange. She has begun treatment with nexgaurd and ketoseb shampoo. Is she still contagious or can she be around other dogs and people when I bring her home?

Sarcoptic mange is highly contagious to other pets and even humans. The treatment can take as long as six weeks for your puppy to respond completely and, until then, I recommend limiting your exposure to her and quarantining her away from any other pets until she is recovered.
