Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 1 year and 1 month old | 12 lbs
So my dog is a Yorkshire Terrier mix with chihuahua. I am starting to notice that cold things make him start gagging and sometimes he might get out some clear mucus. In summer I gave him ice cream and every time I gave him, he gagged. Now in winter he does the same thing when ever he accidentally removes his jacket. Can he be allergic to the cold? Is it possible? If so, what should I do? He weighs less then 10lbs. And he’s just a year old.

Hello, sorry to hear about Rexxy. Dogs may definitely have allergies to plenty of things, however I have not heard an allergy to the cold. I think he may have hiccups or regurgitation elicited by being cold but not necessarily an allergy. Best thing to prevent this is to avoid cold weather, however, if this is getting worse, then he may need to be evaluated by your veterinarian or an internist. Hope this helps and best of luck.
