Is it safe to give my dog Tramadol after Gabapentin for pain?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | 3 years and 5 months old | 78 lbs

Hi! Posted earlier but I’m pretty sure the issue is something on Charlie’s foot. I checked his paw he won’t walk on and nothing is stuck in there but is there a chance something is wrong with the pad? I gave him Gabapentin about 4 hours ago and he is still panting heavily and definitely In pain. Is it bad to give him tramadol right now to hold him over until we can see his vet tomorrow ?

Tramadol and gabapentin are safe to give together. Tramadol comes in 50 mg tablets. The upper limit of the dosing range for a 78 pound dog is 150 mg. However, I rarely start with the high dose. I usually start with 50 mg every 8 hours and then increase to 100 mg if you feel it’s needed. Best of luck and I hope you find the reason tomorrow! I hope he improves quickly.
