Pet's info: Dog | Alsatian | Female | spayed | 1 year and 5 months old | 67 lbs
Follow up:startled once and expressed anal glands. Has since expressed them over lesser situations, up to multiple times a day. Started her on calming supp. and now her bum stinks ALL the time. 1 why is she leaking/making more of a mess on the supp.? Specifically after pooping 2 how long should we wait in between the 2 week periods of use on the supplement? We have already ruled out food allergies and she doesn't scoot her bum or appear to be in pain, just expresses when scared (very often)

She may be reacting to one or more ingredients in the calming chews. Valerian root may cause gastrointestinal upset as a side effect. Allergies have multiple causes which makes diagnosing and treating frustrating at times. The chronic stress, or being high strung, can also be a contributing factor. Consider a different supplement or even a prescription medication to decrease her stress/anxiety. A consultation with a veterinary behaviorist/trainer would also be recommended to determine triggers and to offer tips on desensitization therapies. A pheromone product, such as the Adaptil collar or DAP plug in diffuser, may also decrease her anxiety or aggression. In reference to a "wash period" between uses, a week or two may suffice. It would be best to find a product that you can use long term and without pause. This would avoid stress during the period she is not being treated.
