Can a cat get cancer and die quickly from boot spray exposure?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 8 years and 11 months old | 10 lbs

How quickly could a cat develop cancer after exposure to a carcinogen? My cat passed away about a month after I used boot spray to waterproof my boots. I just wondered if he had inhaled some if that could have caused cancer to develop which caused his death in such a short time. (The vet said it was either cancer of heart disease which caused his issues and caused fluid to fill his chest and some of his lungs). I just wanted to make sure that you didn't think that the boot spray could be a cause

So sorry to hear that JB passed away. It usually takes years and years to develop cancer after exposure to a carcinogen. JB would have had to ingest/inhale a copious amount of that boot spray over time for that to be the cause. I am 99.99% sure that was absolutely not the cause. Hope this eases your mind. Best wishes.
