Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 11 years and 5 months old | 19 lbs

We started giving our cat omega 3 about 3 months ago. Now his back to his bum is very sensitive. Also if you pat near the base of his tail he starts to suckle like a kitten. He is 12 years old and weighs 19 lb

Hi! I don't think the Omega 3s are causing Joeys sensitivity. I would check carefully for fleas and make sure he is on prevention. Another possibility in an older cat would be arthritis causing a condition called hyperesthesia syndrome. Treating the arthritis under the care of your vet may help the symptoms. Good luck!
