My cat's allergic reaction is improving, should I still see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Russian Blue | Female | spayed | 5 years and 7 months old | 13 lbs

I took my cat to my parents for Christmas and she started scratching her face and ears, her ears were hot, and she was licking her paws a lot. She also lost hair in some small patches on her ears where she was scratching. I brought her home 24 hours ago and she seems to be getting better (less scratching, ears not hot anymore). Do I need to take her to the vet even if symptoms are improving? I'm thinking she was allergic to something at my parents'. PS otherwise behaviour, eating is normal.

Even though the symptoms are resolving I would take her to the vet. That is a pretty significant reaction from what I can tell from the photo. Looks like possibly a contact allergy and often times the cat will need an anti-inflammatory and antibiotic injection to get this to clear up. My opinion is to get her to your vet for an exam as soon as you can. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
